What are Cloth Swim Diapers?

This might come as a surprise, but swim diapers (whether cloth or disposable!) are not designed to absorb urine.  If you think about it, this makes sense, because if it did absorb liquids, your baby's swim diaper would weigh them down!

Swim diapers are designed to contain bowel movements - basically to keep poop out of the pool!

Swim diapers are mandatory for children under 3 years of age at most pools.  Cloth swim diapers are an affordable and effective option for parents who want to take their baby swimming.  Just like your own swimsuit, cloth swim diapers can be washed and used again and again.  We've tried both cloth and disposable swim diapers, and I guarantee that cloth diapers, especially when wet, fit much better than disposables... which means they are more reliable at containing any messes that might occur!

Why Should You Consider Cloth Swim Diapers?

Planning to take your little one to a splash pad or public pool this summer?  Even if you're planning to use your own backyard pool, swim diapers are a must to keep your baby and the rest of your family healthy and avoid fecal contamination of the pool water!

If you're trying to decide between cloth and disposable swim diapers, here are a few reasons why cloth is a great option.   Compared to disposables, cloth diapers are:

  • More reliable, better fitting - in fact, many pools now prefer cloth swim diapers because they mean fewer accidents in the pool (and therefore less shut-downs)
  • Usually more affordable, especially if your little one swims every week
  • A great way to eliminate waste
  • Cute!
  • Longer range for fit - you may be able to combine a swim diaper with a UV t-shirt (Rashguard), and avoid spending money on swim suits that might only fit for a couple of months.
